1. WATER

You've likely heard you should drink more water. You’ve probably even heard you should drink 1/2 your body weight in ounces of water per day (150lbs = 75 ounces water). But why is it a big deal?


Our bodies are made up of 60% water and the brain and heart are composed of 73% water. It’s a vital nutrient to the life of every cell in our body and serves numerous essential functions to keep us going each day. (1)

It also aids the production of hormones and energy-producing neurotransmitters in the brain, such as dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin (commonly know as feel good transmitters).


Dehydration on the other hand (insufficient amounts of water) leads to fatigue because it adversely impacts the flow of oxygen to the brain and causes your heart to work harder to pump oxygen to all of your bodily organs. This in turn makes you more tired and less alert. Severe dehydration can even lead to organ failure and death.
